Honda | Parachutes
Honda 'Parachutes' heralds the return of TWiN to our local shores (directors Josh and Jonathan Baker, now repped by The Sweet Shop in Australasia), and they were once again keen to collaborate with Fuel VFX supervisor Simon Maddison to promote the aerodynamic qualities of the new Honda Civic Hatch.
The 60 second spot features cars and pedestrians being held back by racetrack style, photo-real CG parachutes. A big part of the success of the effects would be the in-camera performance of the cast. Simon explains, "we did extensive tests with the actors to work out how best to restrain them. One of the best techniques was attaching heavy gauge fishing line to the harnesses which helped them simulate the weight and effort of being held back.
Prior to the shoot, TWiN consulted closely with FUEL colourist Ben Eagleton to set a direction for the overall grade and then worked with Ben in post-production to adjust the look for each scene.
Honda Australia marketing manager, Kevin Lillie, noted: "With the Civic Hatch, Honda has created an incredibly stylish solution to wind resistance. In conjunction with Draftfcb, we have created a TV spot that talks about it in a similarly stylish way. And a big thank you has to go to The Sweet Shop and Fuel VFX, in particular, who helped create such a magical world."
